Casa Italiana Nazareth College (Rochester, NY) is an association of Italian-Americans who want to keep a close relationship with their country of origin. To do so, they arrange cultural courses focusing on gastronomy, cinema, language, literature and other aspects of their cultural heritage. Among the many events and experiences they organize, there is an annual trip to Italy. This year, they chose to visit western Sicily and selected ItalyIndeed to organize the tour. After a moment of pride and happiness, we got down to work to make sure they would have an amazing experience and that they would get to see, taste and enjoy as much as possible.
The ItalyIndeed-Casa Italiana trip to Sicily will start from the Casa della Memoria Peppino and Felicia Impastato before reaching our accommodation in Castellammare del Golfo. From here, we will enjoy the temple and amphitheatre of Segesta, a boat trip along the north-west coast of the island, a view on the old town of Erice, a visit to the salt pans of Trapani and a tasting at Cantine Florio. We will then move towards Agrigento and on the way there we will visit the Kasbah in Mazara del Vallo and the lovely town of Sciacca. While staying in Agrigento, we will explore the Valley of the Temples, the Kolymbetra Gardens, the Benedictine monastery in Palma di Montechiaro and enjoy relaxing on the shore at the Scala dei Turchi. During this part of the trip, we will also learn some of the secrets of Sicilian cooking at Fattoria Mosè, the farm holiday family house where Simonetta Agnello-Hornby and her sister Chiara arrange fantastic stays for visitors looking for authentic experiences beyond the sightseeing. For the last part of our trip, we will move to Palermo, but on the way we will stop at the archaeological park in Selinunte and Cave di Cusa, an astonishing site. In Palermo, we will taste street food through the market of Capo, learn about the rich history through visits to Monreale, the Royal Palace, the Catacombs and the Cathedral of Palermo and will end our tour with a dinner organized at a locals’ apartment in the old town centre. The team at ItalyIndeed are really looking forward to starting this adventure and hope our guests will have a fantastic stay.
